- Return with RRP
Q: I am Canadian Landed Immigrant and have been
working in US on H1-B visa for last two years.
I am returning to Canada next week, and I have RRP
valid till end of this month.
I would like to know what is the process at
port-of-entry when you return to candan after 183
days. I will have my RRP with me, should I
keep any other kind of documents with me?
Also I am planing to go outside Canada for 3-4
weeks to visit my family in Pakistan. Is there
any regulation that after returning to Canada,
when and for how long you can go outsite the country?
A1: You should be in possession of evidence of your
permanent resident status, and of your possession of
a Returning Resident Permit at the time of your re-entry.
No, there are no such restrictions placed on permanent
residents of Canada.
A2: You will first come in contact with a customs
officer and then you will be directed to an
immigration officer. The immigration officer
will take your permit and if they are of the
same opinion as the officer who issued the
document they will allow you re-entry as a resident.
Your permit does not guarantee re-entry. All
entries at POE's (port of entries) is at the
discretion of the examining officer . Check out the
operations manual at the government Website for
further information.
